Description

75th Anniversary of Victory Day (VE Day)

Planning for WWII displays.  Encampments and vehicles.  Also a Hill 112 battle Re-enactment.  Emphasis on DCLI involvement.

We've been working a lot on WW1 in Cornwall over the past few years - and most recently had an exhibition at Heartlands, Pool.

As the anniversary of the end of WW2 is approaching, we've booked Heartlands again for May 2020.

I was wondering if you might be interested in becoming involved in some way during the month?  We are just starting to work on this, so anything is possible!
Please do give me a call or email.

many thanks

best wishes

Susan

The DCLI did get the SS to retreat ;-)

Fair play to them- I would still be wary of the SS even with no tanks and hardly any weapons! I'd like to go and see the granite monument there one day..

Dear Susan,

Here at WWII Re-enactment South West, we are very pleased to be able to support you in your efforts to commemorate the 75th year since the end of World War II. The chance to remind people of it and the significance of it is a tremendous privilege and an important duty. For us, we believe that " living history" is the best way to show our history. We can easily engage with children and adults who are interested in the different styles, smells , vehicles, clothing which bring the history alive. We hope to have encampments with British, American , Russian and German representation.

We will also have the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry represented and hope to present a re-enactment of their famous battle in Normandy at Hill 112. Many will not be aware that the hill is also known as Cornwall Hill, because of the sacrifice of so many DCLI in the battle against the elite II SS Panzer Corps. The DCLI were just light Infantry , but their actions ultimately helped to lead to the defeat of the II SS Panzer Corps due to attrition.

To be able to let local people know who helped to give them a free land is well worth the effort.

Kind Regards,
