Most of us use a flat-wick type Kerosene lamp.  We recently acquired a couple of vintage pressurised, mantle lamps (Known as Tilley Lamps).   These were £1 each from a Car boot sale.  They produce a lot of light and a lot of heat, which is great when you are living outside!.  They do need more attention than the flat wick lamps, but if they are pumped up after lighting, they will burn for hours.  They say that in 10 hours, one of these lights will burn 1¼ pints of kerosene.

Spares for these can be found on the internet.  A good place is http://www.parafinalia.biz/

Two years on and these lamps are burning nicely.  If you lose electricity in these cold conditions, these lamps provide heat and light.  Their photos are here - Lamp photohttps://wwiireenactmentsouthwest.co.uk/...63_56c4d8995161f.jpg
