We chatted very briefly some months ago about a TV
documentary I have written and am presenting.
Here’s a snapshot of the film.
Battlefield Kitchen is the show where lead presenter
and writer Eric Barton is joined by a guest celebrity Chef to unearth what
really went on as troops tried to cook and eat under the threat of battle
conditions during the assault on the Normandy beaches and all the way to
Berlin. With massive VE day celebrations being planned in the UK for 2020,
Battlefield Kitchen provides the perfect platform to celebrate our veterans and
showcase some ‘oddball’ cuisine that kept the British Army on the march.
They’ll cook and munch their way through a period in
history that changed people’s lives and the World forever.
Battlefield Kitchen is a cookery show with a
difference. It meets history head on to provide an informative entertaining
glimpse at how food was cooked, prepared …and eaten under the most horrific of
battle conditions. It’s Saving Private Ryan meets Kitchen Nightmares
head-on to provide an unseen look at what the troops had to endure by way of
food and conditions as they fought to rid the World of Nazi tyranny.
We are about to do the opening sequence of this documentary and wondered
if WW11RESW could assist in some way by providing…
- A suitable uniform for me to wear in the opening shot of the film
- Some WW11 props i.e. pots/pans/table/tent
- Perhaps two/three other members to add flavour to the opening shot
by appearing on screen with me
- Any other items/props/ vehicles you think might be appropriate to
lend an authenticity to the opening short sequence.
Please see this link to another show I am involved in ( Bomber Command)
to see the kind of opening shot we will do.

Any help/advice would be great and of course you will
be credited in the show.
Many thanks
Kind regards

Dear WWII Reenactment Group,
My name is Abi Murphy and I am working as a Historian for a pilot TV programme for Squashed Robot Films in Cheltenham.
Our Programme 'Battlefield Kitchen' will show how The British Armed Forces survived by way of what they ate, what they cooked and how and what they drank whilst in the field. This is a part of the Armed forces history that we believe has not been shown before on television and is not widely known about, so would be a unique and great opportunity to show and inform our audience of how British troops survived on their rations and any bits of food they could obtain.
Our short pilot will be focusing on D-Day, the landings and once the troops got off beaches and progressed inland.
After looking at your website I believe the 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry would be perfect for this as this Battalion took part in the Normandy campaigns in 1944.
We are looking to film a 15 minute teaser pilot to pitch to channels with the hope of taking on a series in the future.
I was emailing to enquire to see if you would be interested in participating in shooting our pilot? We are looking for a few re-enactors in costume to act out a few scenes on our filming location at Weston Super Mare Beach on the provisional date Sunday 17th December.
We would be happy to provide you with the footage and stills for you to use for the day.
Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you.
Very best wishes,
Abi Murphy
