Society for Poole - 76th VE/VJ Day celebrations

The Society for Poole had hoped to commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE/VJ Day this year but like most things this has been postponed. Luckily this has allowed us to reorganise and and bring in others who could help us make a fun day of the new date of 15th August 2021. 

Subject to covid, of course, we hope to close Poole Quay from traffic and to mount static displays of Poole’s role in the war - from our Dunkirk flotilla to marine raiding base, flying boat base and the largest D Day embarkation for US forces.

We originally had planned for a parade but this may be more difficult with social distancing so an event with military vehicles, Dunkirk boats tied up along the quay, veterans (we are working with the RBL) and hopefully a Wildcat flypast as well as large information boards about the role the people and town had during the war. We also hope to have some 40’s music with a swing band etc

It would be great to welcome any of your members in uniforms and wilth any vehicles they may have to bring a bit of 40’s style to the Quay.

If any of your members are this way (I know it is slightly on the edge of your region) it would be great. If you/they could let me know I would greatly appreciate it
